Brian Hannon - Owner Boulder Bicycle Works
Managed the website for Boulder Bicycle Works bike shop in Boulder, Colorado om 2015 through 2020. When I took on the project, the shop’s site had a total of five pages and was parked on Google’s page #7 for important key phrases. This was new shop in a competitive market. Letting people know that shop existed, especially in online search, was critical to this small business.
As the budget was tight, I was responsible for the entire project – SEO strategy, sign, copywriting, art and all. It was almost like starting from scratch – but that also opened up a lot of creative opportunity!
With a 360 degree view of the company, I built the website out with quality content and strategic pages. Because their website builder had fixed design options, creatively optimizing for search engines around the bike shop theme was even more important to build visibility. By incorporating positive SEO tactics and design, I was able to move the shop up page #1 in Google SERPs for a few hot keywords in the first six months. We’ve been building visit and new visitor counts ever since, but it wasn’t a case of set it and forget it.
Since opening in 2017, the shop moved locations. Updating the NAP across the web was critical for a small brick and mortar in a competitive local market! With a local SEO and linking strategy we were able to get back on track. Leveraging Google Business Profile was a valuable resource in this effort.
Using industry knowledge, keyword research and website data, I created a backlink strategy that garnered valuable links from high authority domains. Writing customer-focused content, many links found us from organic searches.
Years later, the site still continues to attract and convert. On several occasions, the store owner has told me that new customers have contacted the shop based on the website experience. Out-of-state visitors have even arranged services for when they arrived in town as a result of visiting the website and connecting with the message.
Tom White Golf offers a variety of golf lessons, but when I met the original 4-page website, you wouldn’t have known it. It was my job to create a site that not only told visitors about this amazing golf coach, but one that so got these potential students to the website in the first place. I was in charge design, content and SEO strategy.
In our intake process, I learned about Tom, his business, clients, competitors and more. It became clear that Tom wasn’t like other local golf instructors, so it was important to reflect that in both content and style.
After researching Tom’s market and competition, I created a layout that promoted his offerings, while emphasizing his unique approach to coaching golf. We also uncovered a few ‘new’ services Tom could promote. These were classes he already offered but never advertised as he assumed people 'already knew it.' Having done the SEO research however, I knew differently.
I created a new layout and content for his offerings that would not only show the many ways he can help potential golf students, but that would also help to increase the website’s online visibility. Each page also spoke differently depending upon the needs of the intended audience to engage them in a meaningful way.
Tom was amazed with the site and thrilled with the writing. He enjoyed how the messaging reflected his personal tone and made the website feel as if he was talking
directly to his visitors.
Within a few short months of launching the new site, traffic began to build and Tom confirmed clients for lessons in those audiences we aimed to reach.
Since his earlier site didn’t have a traffic tracking system like Google Analytics or Search Console, we didn’t have any historical data for comparison. However, now Tom ranks on page 1 in Google Search results for some key terms that continue to get convert.
Using the fundamentals of quality content, smart site structure and a properly functioning website, the TWG site shows it has the right foundation for continued growth.
Serving as the SEO Lead on the Maria Droste Counseling Center website redesign, I worked with the Webmaster, the Chief Community Engagement Officer and a team of volunteers to build a stronger website for this Denver non-profit. By the end our eight-month long pro-bono project, the center had a site that not only solved its earlier technical issues, but one that had stronger branding, better user-experience, improved footing for organic search traffic and a solid foundation for future marketing efforts.
The work our team not only rebuilt the MDCC website, but did so in a manner that laid the tracks to support stronger results in:
As the SEO Lead, I wore many hats to help complete this vast project. In addition to helping oversee the site’s strategy and content development, I also created content, edited pages and educated staff best practices. My work also covered technical issues that, had they not been addressed, would have undermined our search optimization efforts.
As part of team committed helping more people get access to affordable mental health services, we completed the site ready for the new year. After launching in early 2021, the site was ell on its way to achieving its goals. Local traffic had begun to increase within months. The Marketing Committee, which quickly shifted gears regular seasonal efforts, had the know-how to leverage the website and better serve clients in need of counseling services.
